The list of databases displayed on the Files Tab in the Notes Admin client has a column "Max Size". What does this value mean?
Solution
Max Size (Maximum Database Size) is a setting that is supported only in databases that have an R4 ODS (ODS version 20). If such a database exists on the server, then the Admin client will display its current limit.
The max size for an R4 Database can be explicitly set when creating a new database, using an R4.x or an R5.x Notes client (using the button "Size Limit..." on the "New Database" Dialog). The size limit can be either 1, 2, 3, or 4 GB. The default max size for R4 databases is 1 GB.
When creating a new database using a Notes 6.x client, this option is no longer available. However, if you create a new Database with an R4 ODS (by naming the file extension of the new database ".ns4"), the database will still have the 1GB Default Size Limit.
Databases with an ODS version higher than 20 no longer have a limit. In this case, the Admin client displays "No Limit".
